Skincare Tips for Dry Skin

The seasons are changing and chances are so is your skin!
Dry skin occurs when skin doesn’t retain sufficient moisture, resulting in redness, cracking, flaking, or scaling.  Often, the outer layers of the skin (the epidermis) becomes more dry when the outside humidity levels are low, such as during dry and cold winter months.  When the air is dry, the epidermis must work harder to retain sufficient moisture in the skin to keep it soft and supple. So how can you avoid dry skin and how can you treat it if you have it?

1) DRINK LOTS OF WATER.
Staying hydrated internally is crucial for proper cell hydration including skin cells.  When you are dehydrated, the skin suffers too. Experts agree that to stay properly hydrated, it is recommended to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day.
2) AVOID HOT SHOWERS.
Although it is tempting to take those long, hot showers...especially during these winter months, hot water breaks down the lipid barriers of the skin which decreases natural internal moisture.  Warm showers are fine, but try not to overindulge in too much hot water if your skin is dry.
3) USE BOTANICALLY INFUSED LOTIONS AND BODY BUTTERS.

When your skin is especially dry, it is important to use a quality moisturizer to help add hydration to the skin and lock it in.  Not all moisturizers are created equal, however. Many top commercial brands include petroleum-based ingredients which can actually dry your skin even more!  Jordan Essentials uses deep moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, aloe, and beeswax that are nontoxic, good for the skin, and highly effective.
4) LAYER MOISTURIZERS FOR OPTIMUM BENEFIT.
For dry skin, you may need more than just one lotion to reverse the dryness.  Working with a Jordan Essentials Consultant to sample and try before you buy as well as customize the best products for your skin and situation is a huge plus.
Generally, for the body we recommend cleansing, light exfoliating, moisturizing, then sealing in the moisture with Jordan Essentials Lotion Bar.  For the face, we recommend JE Gentle Cleanser Foaming Wash, Gentle Exfoliant, Toner Mist, Multi-Peptide Firming Serum and/or Age Defying Serum, Time Rewind Eye Gel, and Deep Daily (or Red Wine) Moisturizer.
5) APPLY MOISTURIZER IMMEDIATELY AFTER BATHING.
Using a moisturizer when the skin is still slightly damp after bathing actually helps seal in more moisture than when applying to dry skin.  You can also use Jordan Essentials Hydrating Body Spray to add bonus moisture right before applying your JE Lotion or Body Butter.
6) USE A HUMIDIFIER.
Adding some humidity to the room will help balance some of the external dryness.  If you have the option, set your humidifier to 60%, a level that may help support the top layer of skin.
7) AVOID SCRATCHING.
Dry skin can itch and become uncomfortable.  Soothe itchy dry skin with Jordan Essentials Skin Relief Lotion, Jordan Essentials Helio Skin Superfood Lotion, Jordan Essentials Magnesium Lotion, or Jordan Essentials Hand & Body Lotion.  Keep one of these lotions on hand in one of our convenient travel sizes when out and about.

Need Help with your WINTER SKIN?

SKIN RELEIF  is something that I use in our HOME contantly!   I have to share a little story.  As a wife with a full time job -  one does  multitask  but it does not always work!    I was in the kitchen draining boiling  water from the noodles,  hubby comes in with  what he believes to be an immediate issue that just had to have my attention -  you know the type of issues they have when you're busy.   So I turned my head to figure out what was going on.

Yep,  you guessed it!   I moved the kettle just enough to miss the sink and go down the front of my shirt.    He was kind enough to run and get the skin relief while I was trying to clean up the mess.   While I applied to a very reddened area,  his wonderful comments  "Honey you really need to pay attention when working with hot stuff".   Long and short I applied again before bed,  NO BLISTERING,  within two days the red was completely gone.

Thursday Testimonial: Shea Butter from Jordan Essentials

Thursday Testimonial:
        Shea Butter!
  Cathy,
I received my order a few days ago and thank you. I wanted to say that this is the best lotion I have ever used. I have very dry, flaky skin and the shea butter lotion takes care of it better than anything I have ever tried... even prescription lotions. For itchy spots it works better than cortisone cream. Also, I an allergic to most perfumes and scents, but vanilla is one that I can wear and the vanilla cream smells sooo good. I get compliments all the time. Just thought I would let you know.

Norma

If I had to choose JUST ONE, Jordan Essentials product that I could not live without it would be our:

         Hand and Body Lotion

I am asked over and over what my favorite product is,  an I have a list of must have's when I place my personal orders,  Sea Spa Shower Gel,  Moisturizing Shampoo, Hair Mask,  Skin-Firming Serum, Age Defying Serum, Spa Polish,  Salt Scrub, Soy/Shea  Moisturizer . . .. .   the PUMP HAND AND BODY lotion is the one product that if I was told I could only take one product with me  would be the clear winner.

Ummm let's see   Sweet Cucumber Melon Pump on my nightstand,  limited edition Cranberry and Amber Spice on my desk at work (stocked up on this one after trying the first pump),  Oatmeal Milk and Honey travel size in my purse . . .  soon to be replaced by Lemon Verbena as soon as the UPS man can get it to me.

I'm pleased to say that I'm not the only person that thinks this way.   Mary A . . .  has to have her bottle of Black Raspberry Vanilla on hand, and will call me to bring her a bottle to meetings that we both attend when she starts to run low.   Becki  has to have her's in Vine Ripened Honeysuckle,  and my MOM is totally addicted to the Oatmeal Milk and Honey. . . . .

Seems that  someone else fell in love with the sample that I sent her to test,  and they have written a review of the product and it's posted on their blog   Check it out,  and  please enter the contest that they're hosting that will be giving away a FREE bottle of the Hand and Body Lotion   http://twoclassychics.blogspot.com/

You can order your own bottle or two :) online at  http://www.myjestore.com/CatherineJames

Summer Fun, rough on the SKIN. . .

This Memorial Day weekend is always considered the "kick off" to Summer, but summer can really be tough on the skin. I've had several of my regular customers contact me that they needed to stock up on the shea butter and lotion bars, because time spent in the Garden or in the Pool are already bringing forth skin problems and they need to get control before summer really kicks into gear.

Personally, I've been working out, loosing weight and spending a lot of time walking and jogging in the pool at the Gym, and I noticed that I too have to pay closer attention to my hands and feet.

The Shea Butter works great at healing those super dry areas and the lotion bar for sealing in that natural moisture.

It's hard to believe that we work so hard to drink enough water to keep our body hydrated, but yet water can be such an enemy to the outside of our skin.

It's important to take care of your self, both inside and out.
