The Mother of all Headaches

I was so happy to see the weather change here in the Houston area,  made for a beautiful weekend for outdoor activities.   That being said the change in weather also brought on the mother of all Migraines.

If you are prone to Migraines,  you know what I'm talking about --  watering eyes, upset stomach,  sensitive to light and noise.  Not to mention feeling like someone is hitting your head with a sledge hammer.

For me they come on without warning,  it's like an explosion goes off.  My first thought is to suffer through and see if it goes away.   Now after all the years that I've battled these headaches I know better,  but I didn't want to move as I know that does not help the situation.   But then I remembers what does help.    I know that it used to take at least 6 extra strenght excedrin and laying down in a dark quiet room for several hours to quell the pain enough to semi-function for the next 3 days (the usual duration).

However that has changed for me.  Now I reach for 2 Extra Strength excedrin,  then the Jordan Essentials  Headache Herbal Blend rollon,  then the Peppermint Magnesium Lotion.

First I take the Excedrin,  the I grab the  Headache Herbal Blend Rollon  applying to the back of my head and neck and along my hair line applying pressure.   Next I grab the Peppermint Magnesium Lotion.   Apply to my stomach and the back of my neck.   In less then 30 minutes my headache has gone from a 9 on my headache pain scale to about a 2.

My headache rollon and the magnesium lotion are ALWAYS with me.

Would you choose Cider or Pumpkin?

I am a PUMPKIN LOVER!  I there I said it,  but my Husband is an APPLE CIDER LOVER and could care less about anything Pumpkin and has been so good about putting up with my Pumpkin this and Pumpkin that . . . most recently Arby's Pumpkin and Cream Cheese Shake (it's a good think we don't have one close enough for a weekly fix),

He's even loving the Citrus and Cider Jordan Essential products that I've been using.

Kroger's sent out several recipes this week,  and one of them was Apple Cupcakes with Cider Frosting. . . I just may make these for a Jordan Essentials party that I have coming up,  and leave a few extra home for David.

Love learning Something New!

Attended the Houston Area Council of ABWA  Meeting last night  (yes,  I did have a Jordan Essentials Vendor Table),  and we had a WONDERFUL  Speaker last night,  who really  had a lot of us in the room thinking  that YES there is MORE and we are in CONTROL!

It's all about knowing what we want,  I have to admit that sometimes it's not so clear in my head.   I know I can take control,  I do it every day,  yet when it comes to my personal life many times I'm more concerned about what everyone else wants to do and go along to be sure that they are happy.

Gave me a new outlook,  now to implement it.

Thank You to Karen Blum,   our guest speaker  and the WINNER of the Jordan Essentials Door Prize

If you would like more information about American Business Women's Association  or having me set up a vendor table at your next event please email me TODAY

What a week! I've so much to be Thankful for.

You know how it is when you have your week all planned out?  It's going to be a busy week but you've done everything that you can to line everyone and everything out to funtion.  You've got a GREAT TEAM,  you know they can pull it off

Then that one thing happens . . .  and you have to dig down deep to find that ENERGY to keep going.
Well that was me this week,

I started off the week excited,  because it was the first time that our family business,  Dixie Cullen  was going to have a vendor table at "Break Bulk Conference"  reaching out to a very important maket for us.

We were cutting it close on printed material beind delivered,  but it arrived just in the knick of time,  we got the booth set up the the show begins with a kick off party Tuesday night.  Music was loud so by the time I realized that my phone was ringing,  I missed the call.   Looked at the number  thought it was the alarm company calling (assuming that given the time someone set the alarm off while setting it at work).  But I called right back and they gave me the address.   Then I realized it was not something at work,  but the MEDIC ALERT company  calling to tell me my mother fell in the driveway and could not get up,  and her elbow was bleeding and that emergency services had been dispatched.   My Dad was the first one there (that will be a story for another day)  but he called my sister and she was on her way down there,   they had to wait on an ambulance to transport my mother was they had to bring it in from the medical center,  since everything closer was in use.

So  Elizabeth and I did our usual,  she stayed with Mom  and after the show ended that night I went to get Dad situation.    Home about 10:30  -- operation for Mom at 8:30 Wednesday am.

5:30 am at the office get them lined out,  then onto the Conference . . . receiving updates from my sister and niece on Mom,  10:30 still waiting,   AC down in several of the operating rooms so they could not be used so massive back log . . . left show,  went to Dads,  rounded up the growing list of things Mom needed to head to the hospital to relieve Elizabeth.  Turns out Mom was kicking her out to go home,  as the surgery is now scheduled for 5 am Thursday.   (Did I forget to mention that my youngest sister was having surgery on Wednesday for Breast Cancer).

Long and short   Mom has a New Hip,  Conference was a GREAT Success,  Sister is doing well,  Dad is much better  and I feel like I could crawl back into bed and sleep for 12 hours,  but that is not going to happen for at least the next month!   So  as I'm typing this the fog cleared enough to remember the Energy Herbal Blend Rollon in my desk that is there and I never use.    So I applied and after just a few minutes of breathing in,  I'm ready to face the day,  not enough to change the world, but able to keep it all together.  I'm sliding it into my pocket now.

I also want to share a big THANK YOU to all my friends that sent their prayers for my Mom,  for Grace who was relaying messages,  and talking to me on the way home from my day to be sure that I stayed awake while driving (and not the first time over the years she's been there).   To my niece Christi for pulling the strings she did (while up in PA now,  she worked on the floor that my Mom is on and knew everyone there),  and to my office Staff for keeping everything together and watching out for Dad while everything was going on.  To Elizabeth for being with Mom every step of the way.  And most of all to GOD for watching over all of us and putting all of you in my life.

Understanding Fibromyalgia

Many of my customers that purchase our Magnesium Lotion are battling Fibromyalgia,  so when I saw this article from Remedy Daily,  I thought that I would share it with everyone.    Hope that you find the article informative

Understanding fibromyalgia: causes, symptoms and treatment

Fibromyalgia is a musculoskeletal disorder that causes fatigue, widespread muscle and joint pain and memory and mood issues, according toWebMD. And while fibromyalgia is the most common musculoskeletal condition after osteoarthritis, it's still not well understood by the medical world.
Women are actually much more likely to suffer from fibromyalgia than men, and at this time there is no cure for the disorder. Since fibromyalgia can cause symptoms that are similar to osteoarthritis, it's important to understand the signs, symptoms and risk factors that are associated with the disorder to make sure you're treated properly.
Risk Factors
There are three risk factors that increase your chances of developing fibromyalgia, according to the Mayo Clinic:
1. Sex. Women are more likely to develop the disorder than men.
2. Family history. If a family member has fibromyalgia, you are at an increased risk of developing it.
3. Rheumatic disease. If you have rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, you might have a higher risk of developing fibromyalgia.
Symptoms
Fibromyalgia often causes widespread pain and fatigue, and it can cause certain parts of the body to be painful to touch -- like they've been overworked or pulled. The disorder also can affect your sleeping habits, usually limiting the amount of restful sleep you can achieve, and cause depression. Other symptoms, according to WebMD, include:
- Abdominal pain
- Chronic headaches
- Dryness in your mouth, nose and eyes
- Hypersensitivity to cold and/or heat
- Inability to concentrate
- Incontinence
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Numbness or tingling in your fingers and feet
- Stiffness

What is a BLEND?

Did you ever wonder  "WHAT IS A BLEND"?  That was a question that I asked myself when we first launched them.   It's actually quite simple,  it's taking one or more different essential oils and blending together with a particular focus.    Jordan Essentials has put these blends together in the roll on, dropper bottle or spritzer.   I use all three in our home.   The dropper bottle is great for use around the house,  and the spritzer too.   Roll On's are always with my no matter where I am so that I can use when needed.

If you would like more information on any of our blends,  just drop me an email or text 832-465-8670 and I'll be happy to share more information.

Happy Labor Day from Jordan Essentials

Do  you know the History of Labor Day?

Labor Day: What it Means

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Labor Day Legislation

Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From these, a movement developed to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states - Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York - created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

Germs at the Gym, what do you do?

David and I are working towards a better life style which includes exercise.  However with the advent of cold, flu and allergy season,  GERMS are something that we should be thinking about.   While IMMUNE ROLL ON HERBAL BLEND is always in my purse,  I've now put a spray bottle into both David's and my gym bags.

check out this article from Sparkpeople.com

You hit the gym to improve your fitness, not to pick up sickness. But with the combination of sweat, humidity, shared equipment and confined spaces, health clubs can be hotbeds for germs. From the common cold to hepatitis A to Novovirus, there could be dozens of bacteria and viruses lurking in, on and around your favorite workout gear—some of which can live for days on hard surfaces. A study published in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine found that 63 percent of workout equipment was contaminated with rhinoviruses (RVs), which are known to cause the common cold as well as upper and lower respiratory tract infections.

This doesn't mean you should stop going to the gym—the benefits far outweigh the risks. With the right awareness and precautions, you can still get your sweat on without bringing home any unwelcome companions. The first step to avoiding gym germs is knowing where they live. Below are some of their favorite health club hangouts, along with precautions you can take to protect yourself.

Hotspot #1: Water Fountains

Studies have found that water fountains can actually harbor more bacteria than toilets, as their wet surface makes them a breeding ground for germs. The basin is most likely to be contaminated, but the handle may also contain some nasty microbes.

The safest way to hydrate is to bring your own water bottle. If you must use the fountain, follow these precautions: Turn it on for a few seconds before drinking from it, don't let your mouth come in direct contact with the spigot, touch only the handle and wash your hands afterward.

Hotspot #2: Locker Rooms and Showers

Germs thrive in wet, humid areas--putting locker rooms and showers right in the danger zone. The biggest threat is
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a bacterium that can cause skin infections. Showers can also pass along warts, ringworm, strep, athlete's foot and other not-so-fun fungi.

The best way to stay safe is to shower at home—but if you must lather up in the locker room, wear flip-flops to avoid coming in direct contact with floor-dwelling microbes (and to prevent slipping). Other best practices include bringing your own antimicrobial soap and shampoo, drying your feet thoroughly after showering, and wearing a towel when sitting in the steam room or sauna.

Hotspot #3: Yoga Mats

Next time you're doing crunches or settling into your favorite stretch, consider that your exercise mat most likely absorbed the sweat and germs of whoever last sweated on it. The best precaution is to bring your own mat. If you must use a shared mat, wipe it down with a disinfecting spray before and after each use, and place a towel on the mat as an extra germ barrier.

Hotspot #4: Cardio Machines

Treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes are great for burning calories, but the trade-off could be a burning fever later. To reduce the threat, use hand sanitizer after your workout. Most gyms provide sanitizing spray to wipe down machines before and after each use.

Hotspot #5: Weight Machines & Free Weights

As people do full-body exercises with shared weight machines, there's a bigger chance of spreading germ-filled sweat. Again, sanitizer is the best defense: Spray down and wipe each machine before and after each use, and apply hand sanitizer between sets.

Hotspot #6: Gym Bags

In addition to clothes and gear, your gym bag could pick up some unwelcome passengers—like E. coli, Norovirus and staph—through contact with benches and floors. To prevent this, choose a bag in a material that's less germ-friendly, such as plastic or vinyl, and wipe it down with disinfecting spray when you get home. Store sweaty clothes in a separate plastic bag.

Hotspot #7: Towels

Even if the gym's towels have been washed, they could have picked up bacteria or viruses from baskets, benches or lockers. To stay clean, dry and germ-free, bring your own towels from home: One to absorb sweat during workouts and another if you're showering.

Quick Tips for Germ-Free Workouts
·         Before choosing a new gym, take a tour and check to make sure it's clean and well-ventilated. Ask about the gym's policies for day-to-day cleaning of equipment and machines.
·         Keep any cuts covered with a moisture-resistant bandage during workouts. Most infections enter the skin through lacerations.
·         Bring your own water bottle, mat, towels, boxing gloves and toiletries.
·         Wipe down all cardio and weight machines with sanitizing spray before and after using.
·         Wear flip-flops in the shower and locker room.
·         Wear a towel when sitting in the steam room or sauna.
·         Even if you plan to shower at home, wash your hands before leaving the gym.
·         Store sweaty workout clothes separately from other items.
·         Spray your gym bag with sanitizing spray and wipe it down after each use.
·         If you notice any skin irritations, such as a rash or red, painful area, contact a doctor to check for possible infection.

How do you avoid germs at the gym?

Talcum/Baby Powder & Ovarian Cancer

Over and over again I'm reminded that it takes only 26 seconds to get from your skin to your blood stream.  This has been a constant reminder from all types of sources.

When you think of "Babies"  what "Brand Name" comes to you mind first . . . I think we're all thinking the same one.   Now I don't remember what my Mom used on me when I was a baby.  But I do know that with my  two youngest sisters,  my Mom always wanted "Corn Starch" based baby powder but back then it was not so easy to find.

Now I learn that one of the products that I used regularly while growing was filled with Talcum powder,  not that I would have known at the time that Talcum was a filler with serious represcussions.     So much so that even now that "Brand Name" has changed their product because of it.

Women who were diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer after using Talcum/Baby Powder may be eligible for compensation. Check out  Talcum/Baby Powder & Ovarian Cancer to see if you qualify to submit a claim.
