The Mother of all Headaches

I was so happy to see the weather change here in the Houston area,  made for a beautiful weekend for outdoor activities.   That being said the change in weather also brought on the mother of all Migraines.

If you are prone to Migraines,  you know what I'm talking about --  watering eyes, upset stomach,  sensitive to light and noise.  Not to mention feeling like someone is hitting your head with a sledge hammer.

For me they come on without warning,  it's like an explosion goes off.  My first thought is to suffer through and see if it goes away.   Now after all the years that I've battled these headaches I know better,  but I didn't want to move as I know that does not help the situation.   But then I remembers what does help.    I know that it used to take at least 6 extra strenght excedrin and laying down in a dark quiet room for several hours to quell the pain enough to semi-function for the next 3 days (the usual duration).

However that has changed for me.  Now I reach for 2 Extra Strength excedrin,  then the Jordan Essentials  Headache Herbal Blend rollon,  then the Peppermint Magnesium Lotion.

First I take the Excedrin,  the I grab the  Headache Herbal Blend Rollon  applying to the back of my head and neck and along my hair line applying pressure.   Next I grab the Peppermint Magnesium Lotion.   Apply to my stomach and the back of my neck.   In less then 30 minutes my headache has gone from a 9 on my headache pain scale to about a 2.

My headache rollon and the magnesium lotion are ALWAYS with me.

Germs at the Gym, what do you do?

David and I are working towards a better life style which includes exercise.  However with the advent of cold, flu and allergy season,  GERMS are something that we should be thinking about.   While IMMUNE ROLL ON HERBAL BLEND is always in my purse,  I've now put a spray bottle into both David's and my gym bags.

check out this article from Sparkpeople.com

You hit the gym to improve your fitness, not to pick up sickness. But with the combination of sweat, humidity, shared equipment and confined spaces, health clubs can be hotbeds for germs. From the common cold to hepatitis A to Novovirus, there could be dozens of bacteria and viruses lurking in, on and around your favorite workout gear—some of which can live for days on hard surfaces. A study published in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine found that 63 percent of workout equipment was contaminated with rhinoviruses (RVs), which are known to cause the common cold as well as upper and lower respiratory tract infections.

This doesn't mean you should stop going to the gym—the benefits far outweigh the risks. With the right awareness and precautions, you can still get your sweat on without bringing home any unwelcome companions. The first step to avoiding gym germs is knowing where they live. Below are some of their favorite health club hangouts, along with precautions you can take to protect yourself.

Hotspot #1: Water Fountains

Studies have found that water fountains can actually harbor more bacteria than toilets, as their wet surface makes them a breeding ground for germs. The basin is most likely to be contaminated, but the handle may also contain some nasty microbes.

The safest way to hydrate is to bring your own water bottle. If you must use the fountain, follow these precautions: Turn it on for a few seconds before drinking from it, don't let your mouth come in direct contact with the spigot, touch only the handle and wash your hands afterward.

Hotspot #2: Locker Rooms and Showers

Germs thrive in wet, humid areas--putting locker rooms and showers right in the danger zone. The biggest threat is
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a bacterium that can cause skin infections. Showers can also pass along warts, ringworm, strep, athlete's foot and other not-so-fun fungi.

The best way to stay safe is to shower at home—but if you must lather up in the locker room, wear flip-flops to avoid coming in direct contact with floor-dwelling microbes (and to prevent slipping). Other best practices include bringing your own antimicrobial soap and shampoo, drying your feet thoroughly after showering, and wearing a towel when sitting in the steam room or sauna.

Hotspot #3: Yoga Mats

Next time you're doing crunches or settling into your favorite stretch, consider that your exercise mat most likely absorbed the sweat and germs of whoever last sweated on it. The best precaution is to bring your own mat. If you must use a shared mat, wipe it down with a disinfecting spray before and after each use, and place a towel on the mat as an extra germ barrier.

Hotspot #4: Cardio Machines

Treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes are great for burning calories, but the trade-off could be a burning fever later. To reduce the threat, use hand sanitizer after your workout. Most gyms provide sanitizing spray to wipe down machines before and after each use.

Hotspot #5: Weight Machines & Free Weights

As people do full-body exercises with shared weight machines, there's a bigger chance of spreading germ-filled sweat. Again, sanitizer is the best defense: Spray down and wipe each machine before and after each use, and apply hand sanitizer between sets.

Hotspot #6: Gym Bags

In addition to clothes and gear, your gym bag could pick up some unwelcome passengers—like E. coli, Norovirus and staph—through contact with benches and floors. To prevent this, choose a bag in a material that's less germ-friendly, such as plastic or vinyl, and wipe it down with disinfecting spray when you get home. Store sweaty clothes in a separate plastic bag.

Hotspot #7: Towels

Even if the gym's towels have been washed, they could have picked up bacteria or viruses from baskets, benches or lockers. To stay clean, dry and germ-free, bring your own towels from home: One to absorb sweat during workouts and another if you're showering.

Quick Tips for Germ-Free Workouts
·         Before choosing a new gym, take a tour and check to make sure it's clean and well-ventilated. Ask about the gym's policies for day-to-day cleaning of equipment and machines.
·         Keep any cuts covered with a moisture-resistant bandage during workouts. Most infections enter the skin through lacerations.
·         Bring your own water bottle, mat, towels, boxing gloves and toiletries.
·         Wipe down all cardio and weight machines with sanitizing spray before and after using.
·         Wear flip-flops in the shower and locker room.
·         Wear a towel when sitting in the steam room or sauna.
·         Even if you plan to shower at home, wash your hands before leaving the gym.
·         Store sweaty workout clothes separately from other items.
·         Spray your gym bag with sanitizing spray and wipe it down after each use.
·         If you notice any skin irritations, such as a rash or red, painful area, contact a doctor to check for possible infection.

How do you avoid germs at the gym?

Migraine Awareness Week

Migraine Awareness Week!

Looking for something to ease your aching head?

Try our Headache Herbal Support Blend.

When we first came out with Headache, Dr. Faith Nelson, used me as the class model, as I had a Headache that a about a 9 on the scale, and would have blown off the training class if I would have been staying at the motel vs at a friends home. . She showed us massage points, pressure points and used both the Spray and Roll On. The Roll On is always in by purse. The spray also sits on my desk at work, and one at home. I used to do 6 - 8 excedrin daily, I'm down to 2 or 4 a week. Just been  using our Headache Herbal Blend. You see by day I run a family business, stressful -- especially on those days that my husband and my father are expressing "A" personalities on the same day!

Testimony: Magnesium Benefits

Customer testimonies are one of the many reasons our Founder Nancy Bogart, started Jordan Essentials. She wanted healthy, safe, and effective skin care for her family and yours!

We are so proud to offer our Magnesium products to your family

Magnesium is also one of my favorite products.  Now that David and I are exercising on a regular basis,  it provides so much relief to our sore muscles.   A couple weeks ago I attended a conference for 2 days (the biggest of it's type in the world).  Well I didn't even make it through a 1/3 of the show in those 2 days,  but I more than tripled the amount of my normal daily steps.  I can tell you that I would not have survived to walk the next few days if it had not been for my Magnesium Lotion and Dead Sea Salts.

Fact Friday: Essentials Oils and the Plague

act Friday

Have you ever thought to stop and ask yourself  "How many of today's everyday items were the result of an accidental find".   Something that someone just stumbled upon? A lot of what I learn is shared by someone else,  but who was the first to learn that Orange Essential Oil  helps depression,  or that Lavender Essential Oil was great on burns (oh wait I know,  I addressed this a couple months ago on an earlier Fact Friday post).

Well here is an interesting fact about essential oils and the Plague,  a pure accident!

An interesting episode of essential oils was during the great epidemic of the Middle Ages known as the Bubonic Plague (1330 A.D.) that destroyed almost half of Western Europe’s population.  An enterprising band of thieves took advantage of the high mortality rate by robbing the dead without becoming infected by the disease. The thieves were eventually captured in Marseilles, France and put on trial.  The judge offered the thieves leniency if they would reveal how they managed to avoid the ‘Black Death.’ It turned out that the thieves were perfumers and spice traders.  By rubbing themselves with a blend of highly antibacterial aromatics, they had effectively immunized themselves.

Thank you to the Essential Oils overview and Reference guide.

Herbal Support Blends: SLENDER

Day 2:   SLENDER

You drink enough water to fill a lake,  you eat healthy and know it is the dreaded head hunger!  Slender to the Rescue!

Benefits!  Many people have used acupressure for weight loss by finding points on the body that can relieve pressure on the digestive system.  Learning how to use acupressure for weight loss, when combined with a healthy diet and exercise, can help you reach your fitness goals.

Suggested Use:  Use on ear lobes "Appetite Suppressant Point" on middle of Tragus point on outside of ear on both sides.  Also rub behind the ears to stimulate metabolism.  Pituitary Pump will also be demonstrated to regulate hormones

Key Ingredients:
Peppermint Essential Oil:  Peppermint is an
excellent aid to digestion.  If can help you lose
weight by working on the part of the brain that
triggers the feeling of being full when you eat.

Grapefruit Essential Oil:  Just inhaling the vapor of the grapefruit in the
slender blend can ward off hunger pains.  Not only does Pink Grapefruit
help to diminish people's appetites,  but it also helps improve digestion
             and metabolism.

ability to soothe that hungry mind.

Just absolutely loved to breath in the citrus scent of Slender, perfect for supporting a healthy life style before or after you eat.

Please get your flu shot -- it's not to late

I for one got my flu shot this year for the first time in about 10 years,  even dragged my husband along to get his first of a life time.   You may ask what got me on the band wagon of being sure that everyone that I know is aware how  DANGEROUS the flu is.   On January 5th a friend of mine was admitted to the hospital with the flu.  Within days they put Holly into a medically induced coma because her body was fighting the treatments.

So our decision to go and get our shots,  then I found out from the pharmacist that it takes two weeks to become completely effective.   Holly was only 36 years old,  a wife,  the mother of two and a very active networker,  and big supporter of those in Direct Sales.    On Friday night,  January 17th,  we lost Holly due to complications with the flu.  A devastating loss  to her family and everyone who knew here.

Yes it was just the normal strain of flu is taking young men and women 35-45 years of age.   From what I understand (and, I'm not a Medical Doctor) is that the liquid in a Flu shot is NOT a live vaccine! Therefore, you cannot get the flu from the flu shot! With that said, for those people that get sick after they get a flu shot, chances are 1) it was not the flu, 2) they were carrying a nasty virus that happened to show up after they got the shot, or 3) they hate needles and are simply afraid to get the shot. Yes, it's true that H1N1 is also killing people north of Houston, and there is no vaccine for H1N1. Many people in Holly's same predicament (ventilator and in a medically-induced coma) have the regular, everyday strain of flu. Maybe they got the flu shot in October, maybe they didn't. People NOW are succumbing to the flu. GET YOUR VACCINE, TODAY!

You can call your doctor,  or drop in at your local drug store.   David and I went to Kroger's to get ours.

So please encourage everyone that you know to obtain their flu shots.   I know I will not miss another.

Tuesday Tip: Help for Winter Skin

Tuesday Tip:

The key to healthy, beautifully soft skin is getting rid of the dead, dry skin cells....create a gorgeous glow to your skin with our Salt Scrub!

Choose your favorite fragrance (try the Coconut Papaya for a tropical scent during these long winter days!) and place your jar next to the kitchen sink along with Jordan Essentials Hand & Body Lotion. The Salt Scrub naturally exfoliates and polishes your skin, no chapped hands for you this winter.

Personally I love using the salt scrub on my legs during the winter,  it keeps the dry skin flakes from being all over the inside of my slacks with I take the off.

Make your own "Natural" Fabric Softener

I'm in the process of trying to remove "chemicals" from our day to day life at home and just loved this wonderful idea about making our own fabric softener,  using Lavender Essential oil.

There are so many ways to use Jordan Essentials Llavender Essential Oil!! Did you know you could use your Lavender Oil to make a natural laundry softener? Here's how:

Fill a quart-size glass canning jar with white vinegar and add about 20-25 drops of Jordan Essentials Lavender Oil, use a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol (for emulsion), then put on the lid, shake it up and done!! Use about a half cup in your fabric softener receptacle of your washing machine...it's good for your clothes, skin, machine and very inexpensive!

WOW!  Congrats to ALL the ladies.   I've made it my New Year's Resolution to  "Build a Career" with  Jordan Essentials as we have so much to give!   Now I've been with the Company a long time,  started off with just buying for me,  then  some of my friends,  then as a way to pay the electric bill at home.    I always thought that Jordan Essentials would be my retirement income,  but why wait,  why not take advantage of everything they are offering.  Why not win some of those gifts and cash bonuses.  Why now earn the  Cruise to the Mexican Riveria.   WHY NOT!!!

So my New Years Resolution is to make a plan and work that plan.  My upline is already on board and have put together a GREAT Program to "Help me,  Help myself to "Build that Career" in the year of 2014.   I'm working the plan one step at a time.   I'm going to take advantage of all the GREAT TOOLS that are being made available through Jordan Essentials and my upline!

My friend Suzette is always telling me,  say what you want out loud,  let other's know that it's yours,  take ownership and move forward.  (Suzette Peoples is the Author of  It's All About You!).   So 2014 is the year I am going to take ownership of what I want!

Jordan Essentials perfect for that after exercise ache, check out this special

Like many I'm back at work this morning, after a WONDERFUL Christmas with family.   Feeling great until I went to get dressed this morning and realized that my slacks were feeling a little tigher.  Like most everyone I will have that New Years Resolution to get back into shape.   Or at the very least get that scale moving in a downward direction.

So my first step when I get home from work,  before heating up Christmas left overs,  is time on the treadmill,  but since I've not been diligent about the treadmill of late,  I know that I'm going to be feeling it.

Then the very next "FOR ME"  thing that I'm going to do is,  is to turn the heat up in the bathroom,  start running a bath adding my  "DEAD SEA SALTS" for a Good Soak.   Just LOVE the Peppermint Dead Sea Salt for help in easing my aches and pains.

I will also be getting online to take advantage of the Jordan Essentials After Christmas Holiday Sale.   Nancy our founder knows us all so well,  and puts our Dead Sea Salts on Sale knowing how important and meaningful our New Years Resolutions are that we all get  into shape,  and the little bit of help that we are all going to need to get through that Day After stiffness.

Not familiar with Dead Sea Salts,  check it out below!

Thursday Testimonial: Jordan Essentials and Eczema

If you've been reading my blog posts,  you know that I love hearing how the Jordan Essentials products have helped someone,  as my reason for joining is because the products have helped me.  Here is another of our wonderful success stories.

Many time, it's a combination of our products that help with a problem.  Like the one below,  it was a combination of our Shea Butter and Dead Sea Salts.

Elizabeth Pope:   Success Story: I have a friend that has two children with eczema. They are 9 and 15, and have tried everything possible to tame it. Klayton's is so bad that every scented lotion he's tried burns so bad he is driven to tears. We came home for a visit, so I didn't have much to leave with them. I left enough for them to last until either I could get her more or she could make an order. After one bath soak in the sea salts, bathing using the body wash, and two applications of Shea butter, she reported his skin is 10 times better! I can only image how his skin will be after using it on a daily basis!
