Tip Tuesday: For your reference - Essential Oils Age Chart

One of the questions that I hear from our Mom's and Grandmom's is what age can we use essential oils on the babies.    Many of the essential oils are based on the individual oil itself.

Here is a quick reference chart on the Essential Oil Blends. I will see if this needs updating to the current catalog but it is a great age reference chart.

Quick Reference Chart for our Essential Oils and EO Blends. 🌿This is for items in the current catalog. (Sping/Summer 2019) We have also included the essential oils in the blend.

So even though it is Monday, you can still take a 🛀hot soak in Dead Sea Salts, take a long walk and use a little magnesium to treat your feet and enjoy the smell of wassail in your new

3 Ways to Combat Seasonal Depression

The smell of bonfire, cozy sweaters, cute boots, Friday night football games and pumpkin spice galore…this can only mean one thing! Fall is here! HAPPY FIRST DAY OF FALL, EVERYONE!   We actually had a little taste of if this past week (about 3 days) here in Houston.
The changing of seasons can bring a whole mix of emotions. The days get shorter, the leaves change and fall to the ground, kids head back to school and the days at the lake and swimming are long behind us. Life gets busier with kids sports in full swing and the holidays are quickly approaching.

As the seasons change, so do we. Sometimes it is difficult to get back into the groove of things. Some of you are sending your babies off to college, while others are shedding tears over the first day of kindergarten. No matter if you are in a fruitful season or a “why is this happening” season, you need to know you still have a great purpose. Everything we walk through has an opportunity to develop us or hold us back. It is all about the perspective we hold.
When we walk through seasons of change, how do we grow from our situations and not allow them to overwhelm us? It doesn’t come naturally to us as humans but with an adjustment of our minds, you’ll find that you’ll be able to tackle the seasons of life in a much greater capacity than ever before.
So how do we refocus our lives to handle the changing seasons? There are three things that are crucial to being able to deal with the seasons of life.
Be Positive
When things get difficult to handle, what do you do? Do you throw your hands up in the air and say I give up? Does your mind immediately go to a dark place or do you start speaking positive things over yourself, family, life, business, etc? Instead of allowing yourself to become a pessimist, take this challenge. The next time something tough comes along, stop for a minute…..just stop. Take a deep breath before you respond to your situation. Stimulus causes an action or response and sometimes that response is not what we wanted to happen. Instead….stop! Give yourself a pause in the middle of your stimulus and response. Take a minute and think about how is this going to affect everyone around me? How will this affect me? Over time, the more you practice this, the easier it becomes.
Stop Wallowing in the Dirt
Stop the pity party! When our kids fall down, we don’t just let them stay laying or sitting in the dirt, do we? NO! We either rush to their aid or we tell them to get up and wipe the dirt off and that they are going to be okay. So if we don’t allow our kids to do it, why do we as adults do it? We have to face our situations head on. We can make the decision to sit in the dirt and allow life to pass us by or we can say, “Hey that hurt!” Then we get up, wipe the dirt off our pants and continue moving forward.
Take that First Step
When we make decisions or are facing a tough situation, sometimes it just requires us to have a little bit of a risk-taking faith. That simply means that it is okay to be afraid, it is okay to wonder what is going to happen if you step out….but that’s it. All you have to do is step out. You’d be surprised how quickly things can fall into place when we say, “I’m going to do this and I’m going to do it afraid.” The growth that comes in one tiny step, no matter how small, may be the one step needed to catapult you forward.

Maybe you need a little boost to help you get started. Did you know breathing the aroma of essentials oils can help combat seasonal depression? They are a safer alternative than candles or commercial air fresheners in your home or office. Nature provides powerful benefits from essential oils made from leaves, flowers, roots, and trees. Here is a wonderful recipe called “Beat the Blues” to help you have the confidence you need to move forward.

So as the fall season begins, take a moment to reflect on the seasons of change taking place in your life and realize that these moments may be difficult but eventually they will come to an end and another season will be on the horizon. A season of hope…a season of new….a season of growth….go and be blessed!

Essential Oil Recipes for Toner Mist

I personally have developed a new found appreciation for Essential Oils,  especially when I learned about adding them to my Toner and Misting!

Do you love the thought of the ocean breeze on your face in the morning? A cool splash of mist to awaken your pores that is also a vitamin for your skin?

Let’s customize the feel, aroma, and benefits to fit your needs.  Many products come in unscented varieties, making them perfect for combining with one of our signature essential oils.
Toner Mist has so many great benefits and an important step in any daily skin care routine.  Here are a few key benefits to toning the skin, some which may surprise you:
1.     Restores your skin’s pH balance. Hello balance good-bye skin that is freaked out!  Our skin is naturally acidic, but the pH balance can get out of sync after cleansing as most soaps and cleansers are somewhat alkaline in nature. By using a toner, the skin can quickly re-balance to a more normal pH for a healthier glow.
2.     Shrinks pores. Most soaps and cleansers act to open pores and clean them out, but pores are then left open and exposed. Applying Toner Mist helps remove any excess oil or debris still present in the pores, and closes them back up for less risk of breakouts and acne. Tridimentional Silk Proteins gently pull at the skin’s surface to provide instant tightening while leaving the skin soft and supple.
3     Refreshes the skin. Toner Mist contains concentrates of selected amino acids, which promote cellular regeneration, adding lift and vitality to the skin.
4.      Nourishes the skin. Choose an enriched toner with ingredients like Green Tea, Aloe, Chamomile, and Seaweed.
By itself, a Toner Mist is a refreshing mist you can use any time of day to nourish the skin while leaving you feeling awake, vibrant, and ready to take on anything!  Add to that the power of essential oils and you have a superhero combination.

·         Tea Tree Essential Oil  Add to a bottle of Toner Mist can add antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic qualities. Use to combat acne, athlete’s foot, or other skin issues and irritations.
·         Immune Essential Oil   Add a few drops to create a barrier this busy holiday season from loved ones germs! Take this blend with you when you are traveling to support the immune system and nourish the skin while on vacation or away from home. Choose Immune blends that have Tea Tree, Rosemary, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, and Sweet Orange Essential Oils
·         Lavender Oil   Add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil to the bottle of Toner Mist for a relaxing and de-stressing experience as part of your bedtime routine.
We know you’ll love trying these combinations for yourself.

Essential Oil Recipe Series: Hair Care

Not only are Jordan Essentials products wonderful on their own,  you can combine them to customize the feel, aroma, and benefits to fit your needs.  Many products come in unscented varieties,  making them perfect for combining with one of our signature essential oils.

In this article,  let's focus on hair care.   Your hair is the frame for your face and healthy hair starts with good nutrition and conscientious care.  Jordan Essentials feels that it is important that you have choices that are free from toxic chemicals that may jeopardize your health.   All our hair care products are SLS, DEA and Alcohol-Free.  Perfect to use on their own, or try one of the following recipes, mixing the benefits of essential oils.

Looking for a deeper pampering experience for your hair?  Try one of these fun and easy recipes:
  • To help remove product build-up and add shine to your hair,  in a blender combine 1/2 avocado,  2 tablespoons argan oil, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and 8-10 drops JE Headache Blend.  Pulse until smooth.  Work the mask through dry hair from roots to tips.  Clip your hair in place and allow to sit for 15 minutes or so, and then rinse.  Follow with JE Shampoo and Conditioner.
  • For a dry, itchy scalp, combine 4 drops of Lemon Essential Oil with 2 tablespoons Olive Oil and 2 tablespoons Water.  Mix and massage into damp scalp.  Clip you hair in place and allow to sit for about 20 minutes,  then rinse and shampoo hair with JE Moisturizing Shampoo.
  • For sun-damaged hair,  you can't get much better than a honey treatment!  Honey is a natural humectant,  which means it can attract and lock in moisture.   Combine approximately 1/2 cup honey, 2 tablespoons Olive Oil, 1 egg yolk, and 2-3 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil.  Massage mixture into clean, damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes.  Rinse with warm water.

Essential Oils 101!

How I use my Essential Oils

Ok,  you have your essential oils,  now what do you do with them.   If you're new to Essential Oils,  you ordered them with every intention of using them,  but then poof there they are sitting on the shelf or in the drawer with no idea where to begin.      How do I know this?   I did the same thing when I first wanted to use essential oils.   (You'll find a considerable number of posts on essential oils by searching my blog).

There are many ways to use them but I have found that I personally use them 5 different ways,  so I thought I would share them with you

I of course use my Jordan Essentials Essential Oils and the graphic shows our 6 main scents,  can be purchased individually or in a set.

TOPICALLY:   Typically I will put a little lotion in my hand (Of coure I use Jordan Essentials)   add a drop or two of my desired essential oil,  hand mixing in my hand,  then apply to my body where I want.    If I have a cold or my allergies are acting up I apply to the bottom of my feet.    He is a chart that you can use as a guide to help you with deciding the best place to apply.

INHALE:    I will hold the bottle under my nose and breath in.   I use the Orange essential oils when I want a quick pick me up  or I need to lighten my mood.    I inhale Tea Tree all the time  as it hepls to clear my head and help me to breath when my allergies are acting up.  Or I'll apply to a tissue and lay it on my pillow when heading to bed.    Have to tattle on non-believing hubby --  thought I was seeing things the first time I saw him using it,   now he has his own bottle in his night stand.

DIFFUSION:   I love using the essential oils in my Diffuser,  especially the Lemon,  Orange and Tea Tree will even mix them together.     2-5 drops is all that you need in the diffuser.    This is not a case of more is better.

BATHS/SHOWER:    Yes they can be used in the shower too.    When taking a bath,  I'll add 2-5 drops in the tub of what ever scent I am in the mood for,  lavendar is a great one to use if you're trying to relax or just before bed.     In the Shower is drop a few drops in the back of the shower and have them interact with the steam.    I will also hand mix some with my Shampoo -  just adding 1 or 2 drops of my chosen essential oil

MASSAGE:  This is one that I LOVE,  but do not get enough of   but I'll have David add a drop or  two to the Magnesium Lotion and massage my shoulders and back.

If you have specific questions about Essential Oils and their use,  use the form in the side bar to message me and I'll try and point you in a direction.     If you're in the greater Houston Area,  and would like to have a friend or two or five join you for a Essential Oils 101 class -  I'll bring the oils and we can all play!    Out of the area,  happy to do it on Facebook,  or Zoom with you  and a couple of your friends.

Boost your IMMUNE system with Essential Oils!

I'm not telling you anything NEW when I tell you that the FLU is bad this year. Those that know me well know that in the past I would catch anything that was being passed around.
However I've made a point to keeping the Immune Roll on in my purse with me all the time. Using it before going into a room full of people. Personal story: My parents have both been down with the FLU so my sister and I have been taking turns dropping by the house to check on them. I use my IMMUNE before walking in the door, just swipe it across my palm rubbing and breathing in, and putting a dab under my nose. We made it through 3 weeks without me getting the nasty flu bug. I'll keep using it to whenever I'm where other people are to continue to protect myself.
Available in Rollon, Spritzer and dropper bottle.https://tinyurl.com/y7h5dxtw

Me Monday: Why Essential Oils

More years than I care to remember,  I remember my Grandmother being sick,  and I knew that I wanted to have a healthier way of life. . . then life got in the way,  and while I had an interest in Essential Oils I did not know where to turn to find information.  As the years past I did some research and knew that I wanted to lean toward the Essential Oils,  but I was scared.  Yep scared,  it seemed that a trip to the Allergy Doctor has me allergic to almost anything that grows.

But I learned over the years that if the essential oil is pure enough, and it's used in small doses,  and added to a "carrier"  most do not bother my allergies.  I found an essential oil that depending on the brand worked for me,  and it was my go to  "TEA TREE".   I was ever so excited when the DS company I represented came out with 100% Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils and Herbal Blends,  but provided us training,  sharing information and so much more.

This graphic helps to explain, in concise terms, why I turn to Essential Oils first whenever I can.

Now,  Jordan Essentials has expanded the line to include not only the dropper bottles,  but Roll On's and Spritzers. . .

If you're like me,  you'll find it hard to make a decision  to pick JUST ONE favorite Essential Oil as a favorite.   I it's a very close tie between the peppermint and the tea tree oils,  however when I look at the bottles, they tell me that I've used a lot more of the Tea Tree Oil,  But then again there is peppermint in my magnesium lotion that I use daily.

Looking forward to hearing what you have to share.

Fact Friday: Essentials Oils and the Plague

act Friday

Have you ever thought to stop and ask yourself  "How many of today's everyday items were the result of an accidental find".   Something that someone just stumbled upon? A lot of what I learn is shared by someone else,  but who was the first to learn that Orange Essential Oil  helps depression,  or that Lavender Essential Oil was great on burns (oh wait I know,  I addressed this a couple months ago on an earlier Fact Friday post).

Well here is an interesting fact about essential oils and the Plague,  a pure accident!

An interesting episode of essential oils was during the great epidemic of the Middle Ages known as the Bubonic Plague (1330 A.D.) that destroyed almost half of Western Europe’s population.  An enterprising band of thieves took advantage of the high mortality rate by robbing the dead without becoming infected by the disease. The thieves were eventually captured in Marseilles, France and put on trial.  The judge offered the thieves leniency if they would reveal how they managed to avoid the ‘Black Death.’ It turned out that the thieves were perfumers and spice traders.  By rubbing themselves with a blend of highly antibacterial aromatics, they had effectively immunized themselves.

Thank you to the Essential Oils overview and Reference guide.

Fact Friday -- Essentials Oil use is Ancient!

act Friday

The use of essential oils is seeing a rebirth.  There has been a core group that has been using them all along,  but for many of us, it's something new, something that we want to learn more about,  myself included.  I'm on the search to learn more about them, how to use them and how they can be helpful to my family's well being.

We all know that the the "oil" are referred to in the bible,  but here is a little trivia fact from "Essential Oils Overview and Refernce Guide" that I found quite interesting and hope you will too.

Ancient Egyptians were among the first civilizations to recognize the therapeutic qualities of oils.  In the early 1800’s, papyrus, dating back to 1500 B.C., was found listing over 800 herbal prescriptions and remedies that included the use of many oils.  They had studied the chemical properties of essential oils, the development and refinement of the distillation process.  When King Tut's tomb was opened in the 1900s it had many jars with essential oil residue.  This story sometimes gets exaggerated but does confirm these oils have been used for millennia.
