Magnificent Magnesium

While preparing for this months  Wellness Clinic, my newest edition of "Prevention Magazine" came in and one of their topics was "13 Normal Foods with Superpowers" it focused on lowering you blood pressure and it talks about lowering your sodium intake (which we all know about) but eating foods that are high in at least 2 of the 3 POWER MINERALS. The three are calcium, MAGNESIUM and potassium. You'll see from the below that even with a healthy diet that you will find it diffi...cult to eat enough to get enough Magnesium. Magnesium is one of the minerals that are best applied topically.

Quinoa 1/2 cup 15% Magnesium daily requirement
Pork Tenderloin 3 oz 6% Magnesium daily requirement

Fact Friday: Herbs in Medcine has a long history

I never gave much thought to herbs,  however with the release of the Jordan Essentials Herbal Blends,  I thought I might do a little research.  I knew that they had a long history,  but I remember my grandma and many in her generation referring to "OLD WISE TALES"  but maybe they should have listened more.

The Egyptians were studying the use of herbs as far back as 3500 B.C.,  using them for medicine and in their religious rituals.  Today,  about 7,000 compounds used in medicine originate from plants.  About 200 million pounds (90,718,474 kg) of herbs and spices are consumbed in the U. S. annually.  The most common are black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, garlic, paprika, chili powder, oregano, celery seed and parsley.

Fact Friday: The difference between Herbs and Spices

Several weeks ago at a Wellness Clinic,  I was asked what the difference was between Herbs and Spices.  I could list different ones in each catagory, after all we all have them in our kitchen,   but I could not give a clear explaination.  However while we were on vacation last week,  I pieked up a copy of "TIDBITS of Cheyenne" and it actually had a GREAT explaination of the difference between Herbs and Spices.

There is a difference between herbs and spices.  Generally,  herbs are the leaves of a plant, while spices are taken from the roots, bark or seeds.  This means rosemary, thyme and mint are herbs, and cinnamon, paprika, coriander and nutmeg are spices.

Such a simple answer to a question,  now I'll know how to answer the question when asked again while I'm presenting our Herbal Blends and Essential Oils.

Testimony Thursday: Magnesium, helps more then aches and pains!

I simply LOVE our Jordan Essentials Magnesium products  and every show that I do,  I completely sell out of what I have in stock.  I wanted to take a moment to share with you a testimony from Darlene about the difference Magnesium has made in her Vitamin D count.

Please let me know if you would like to see additional information on the Benefits of Magnesium.

A little long, but have to share my personal testimony: For almost 2 years, my regular MD had me on 50,000 Vitamin D once a week and after getting blood work done on and off, it always stayed below 30, (30 and above is normal...the higher the better) going down to 27 at one time and 23 the last time.  At the end of March, it was recommended that I should see an Endocrinologist for help in getting my level up. He ran tests and kept me on the 50,000/once a week dose again of Vitamin D and said he would recheck me in June/checkup was last Thursday on the 12th.

A little over a month ago, a link was shared with wonderful information about Magnesium and it helping your body absorb Calcium, Vitamin D and other important vitamins. JE came out with Magnesium Products this past Spring, and I thought...let's give it a try, so I've been using our Magnesium Lotion on my hands and doing Magnesium Dead Sea Salt Soaks during the last Month. Today, I received a call from my Endo's office and the nurse said the Dr. went over my blood test results and wants me to continue on same prescription. He had told me last week that if needed, he would adjust my prescription and I may have to be on maintenance. I will be following up with him again in December. I was curious on what my number/count was so I asked her......and she said 33.7!!! Yes, blaming the Magnesium. lol I will follow up again on my count in December. So excited!

Jordan Essentials Magnesium products are available in  Peppermint Magnesium Lotion (we've added Peppermint Essential Oil)  along with Unscented Lotion and Dead Sea Salts.

Weekly Tip: Things you didn't know about shampoo.

For those of you have have been following my blog,  I've shared with you the difference our Jordan Essentials Moisturizing Shampoo has made in my hair.   Thought I would take a few moments to share part of an article what is from "Women's Day Magazine" with some great tips for Shampooing.

When it comes to shampooing your hair, it's as simple as lather, rinse, repeat. Or is it? By now we all know there's no need to repeat––the instruction is just a clever ploy to get consumers to use up the product more quickly. But that's not all. We talked to the pros for insider information on everything from how to keep color from fading to the right way to wash your hair. Read on to get the lowdown on what you need to know to start having a good hair day, every day.
1. Shampoo is not the most important part of washing. You can buy the most expensive shampoo on the market, but if you aren't using it correctly you won't see results. "The massaging of the scalp and hair as well as the rinsing are the most important parts of washing your hair," says celebrity stylist Riccardo Maggiore. Curl expert Ouidad recommends using the cushions of your fingers to massage the scalp while you shampoo in order to get rid of the secretion of sebum (an oily, waxy substance) so hair follicles can grow healthily from the scalp. And always be sure to rinse the shampoo completely out of your hair to prevent buildup.
2. Natural home remedies aren’t necessarily better. Just because a shampoo contains a natural ingredient doesn't mean that ingredient is good for you on its own. "Lemon, for example, can irritate the scalp and hair follicle," says Maggiore. "And mint and menthol—which, when used in salon products can create a soothing effect—can actually cause severe allergic reactions when used in home remedies." So don't use shampoos as guides to what to use on your hair—they've all been formulated and balanced by professionals.
